Comic Con’ 2011: The Best Clips and Trailers from this year’s SDCC

2011’s Comic Con is over, and to deliver some of you the good that were on display, I’ve decided to compile a list of some of the best movie trailers and clips that were on display:

1. Fright Night remake – Peter Vincent (David Tennant) clip

Firstly is the clip finally showing us David Tennant’s take on douchy magician and vampire expert Peter Vincent in the remake of 1985’s cult horror film Fright Night. One thing’s for sure, it’s definitely light years different from Roddy McDowall’s performance from the original, with Tennant taking on a more gothic take that seems like a cross between David Bowie and Russell Brand. It does look brilliant though, and most importantly; funny. So if you want to see previous Dr Who get all gothed up and prance around like a modern-day Captain Jack Sparrow, then this film will definitely be for you. Check out the clip…

2. Star Wars Blu-ray Collection – deleted scenes trailer reel

Twentieth Century Fox revealed a teaser of the upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray Collection. The teaser is basically a montage of never-before-seen deleted scenes to be included as a special feature. The best thing about this montage is that it retains the retro-feel of the original trilogy, and reminds us why we all prefer the original unedited versions over the extended versions from the year 2000. The Collection will be in stores 12th September. Check out the clip…

3. The Amazing Spider-man – teaser trailer

Also revealed at both comic-con and to the net was the first teaser trailer for the Spider-man reboot The Amazing Spider-man. As most of you know, I’ve actually been quite looking forward to this for one reason: it stars Andrew Garfield (of Social Network fame). A fantastic actor, if anybody was going to take over the role from Tobey Maguire, it was him. Well this new trailer…it certainly looks a lot different than Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. It looks like it has a much bigger focus of family and Parker’s past and certainly looks a lot darker. Which is always a good thing when creating a reboot (see Batman Begins). Also, I love the first-person free-running/web-slinging sequence at the end. Check it out…

4. Knights of Badassdom – trailer

The first trailer for Joe Lynch’s horror comedy Knights of Badassdom was also released. Centering on the geek activity of LARPing (that’s Live Action Roleplay to non-geeks), it centers on a small group of friends who are on a LARPing quest when they accidentally wake a succubus witch who then sets out to tear the LARPing group apart. The horror comedy genre has taken a bit of a slump recently, lets hope either this or the Fright Night remake can set it on the right course once again. Check out the trailer…

5. Andrew Niccol’s In Time – trailer

Andrew Niccol (visionary director of ace sci-fi films such as Gattaca and The Truman Show) revealed the trailer for his up and coming sci-fi thriller In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy. Now, bear with me on this one because it’s one hell of a plot: the film is set in a dystopian future where people stop aging at the age of 25. The catch is that once you reach the age of 25, a clock on your arm starts ticking down and you only have a further one year to live. People pay for everyday things like taxi-rides and bar drinks with time (i.e. a cup of coffee costs 4 minutes). The film centers on a young man (Justin Timberlake) who is given 100 years by a mysterious stranger. However, the stranger then shows up dead and the police think Timberlake stole the years. He is forced to go on the run in the weird rich New Greenwich Village. Got all that? Good, because this film certainly promises to be a “thinking man’s thriller”. With a tone reminiscent of such sci-fi films as David Cronenberg’s Existenz and Niccol’s own Gattaca, this movie looks positively brilliant. Check out the trailer…

6. Avatar: The Legend of Korra – trailer

Nickelodeon revealed the first trailer for the up and coming follow up to animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. And no, this doesn’t have anything to do with James Cameron’s phenomenally popular sci-fi movie. The original series saw a world filled with warriors known as “benders” who could “bend” the elements of fire, earth, air and water to fight opponents. It centered on a young boy named Aang, who was revealed to be a legendary Avatar; a warrior who could control all four elements. This new series is to be set 70 years after the original and centers on Korra, a young warrior who has mastered four of the elements (water, earth and fire) and seeks out Aang’s son, Tenzin, to learn the fourth (air). As with the first series, this new one looks to feature some truly stunning animation and brilliant fight scenes. Check out the trailer…

7. Marvel’s The Avengers – teaser trailer

And last but not least, there was the much awaited teaser trailer for Joss Whedon’s and Marvel’s comic book epic The Avengers. The film has been forever teased since the release of Iron Man, and next year it will finally be up on us. It fuses the most popular of Marvel’s superheros, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Incredible Hulk together in one massive movie. And did I mention it’s being written and directed by uber-geek Joss Whedon? Fans at this year’s Comic Con were treated to a teaser trailer showing off completely new footage including an awesome shot of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Scarlett Johannsen looking as sexy as ever as Black Widow. Now, as most of you are probably aware, this exact same teaser has also been tacked on the end of the Captain America movie, and as such, the only available version on the internet is rather poor in quality, but for now we will have to make do (plus you get to hear all the Marvel fanboys jizzing in the background, which is just hilarious). Check it out…

As always, comments below… (also I have no idea why there’s such a massive space at the bottom)
